- a. பூமிக்குமேல் 50 யோசனைக்கு அப்பால் இருக்கும் ஓர் வாயு. இது எல்லா உயிர்களுக்கும் தீபனம் பிறப்பிக்கிறதுமன்றி இராட்சதர், கந்தருவர், சித்தர்கள் ஆகிய இவர்களும் பறவைகளும், ஆகாயமார்க்கத்தில் உலாவுவதற்கும் ஆதாரமாயுள்ளது.
b. A thin, subtle mater, much finer and rarer than air, occupying the heavenly space. It is an enteric medium of extreme tenuity and elasticity universally diffused in space above the earth at an altitude of 50x13 or 650 miles. It is said to be the medium of transmission of vital force to super physical beings like the Rakshashas, Gandarvas, siddhars etc., travelling in the enteric regions and also to birds flying far high in the aerial regions.
NOTE: In ancient cosmology it is an element filling all space beyond the sphere of the moon and constituting the substance of the stars and the planets. It was conceived as a purer form of fire or of air or as a fifth element. In Modern Physics, it is an elastic and subtle substance believed to permeate all space and to be the medium through which the waves of heat and light are transmitted. It is also called luminiferous ether.
