அட்டாங்க யோகம்

[ Attangayogam]

a. இயமம், நியமம், ஆசனம், பிராணாயாமம், பிரத்தியாஹாரம், தியானம், தாரணை, சமாதி ஆக இவைகள் எட்டும் அடங்கிய யோகாப் பியாசம்.

b. The eight-fold yoga practices consisting of the 8 kinds of steps or stages as enumerated below;-
   i. இயமம் - restraint of the appeties,
   ii. நியமம் - religious observances.
   iii. ஆசனம் - position or posture of the body.
   iv. பிராணாயாமம் - breathing in a particular way.
   v. பிரத்தியாஹாரம் - restraining the senses.
   vi. தியானம் - silent meditation.
   vii. தாரணை - fixing the mind on a member of the body.
   viii. சமாதி - silent contemplative worship.
Note: No3 is a position practised so as to bring the mind and body into a state of subjugation to one’s will.
No.4 is a correct form of breathing and the only scientific method of charging oneself with Vatality and Personal Magnetism.
No.6 is the extension of concentration.    It is one of the means of controlling the rising waves of the mind and purifying the memory and thus gaining for the soul all powers of Nature.
No. 8 is the transformation of mental consciousness in the form a Atman in which the mind becomes super-conscious.
