அசுவினி புத்திரர், அசுவினி குமாரர் - தெய்வலோகத்து மருத்துவர்களாகிய நாதன், தத்தியன் என இருவர். அவர்கள் வேதத்திற்கு சொல்லியுள்ள தெய்வலோகத்து மருத்துவர்கள் அனேகருள் இவர்கள் சிறந்தவர்களெனக் கருதப்படுவார்கள். இவர்கள் சூரிய அம்சத்தினால் பிறந்தவர்களாவர். தட்சன், பிரமனிடத்தில் ஆயுள்வேதம் கற்றுணர்ந்து, சிகிச்சை தரிசனம் என்னும் நூலை இயற்றினார். அசுவினி குமாரர்கள் அதனைப் படித்துத் தெய்வலோகத்து மருத்துவர்களானார்கள். இவர்கள் சிகிச்சை இரத்தின தந்திரம், பிரமைக்கியம் முதலிய வைத்திய நூற்களை இயற்றியுள்ளார். மேலும், பாரிசவாயுவினால் இந்திரனது கை பீடிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த காலத்தில், இவர்கள் அந்நோயைச் சிகிச்சை செய்து குணப்படுத்தியதாகவும், பிரமன், தனது ஐந்து சிரசுகளில் ஒன்றை, பைரவரால் இழந்தபோது, அச்சிரசை மறுபடியும் இவர்கள் கூட்டுவித்ததாகவும் சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது. அன்றியும், தேவாசுர யுத்தத்தில் தேவர்களுக்கும் சிகிச்சை செய்ததாகக் கூறப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. - Among the many gods worshipped in the Vedic ages, the Aswin Kumars or the twin-physicians of the gods are supposed by the Hindus to be the fountain source of medical knowledge. They are called Nathan and Thathian, the twin sons of the Sun. it is said that Dakshan after obtaining from Brahma instructions in the Ayurveda, wrote the book Sigitchai Darasanam (knowledge of treatment). Aswin Devars studied it and become physicians to the gods. They are the authors of the medical works known as sigitchai Rathna Tantram and Brahmagyam. They were originally Vedic deities who attained celebrity as physicians and surgeons. They cured the paralysed arm of Indra and when the fifth head of Brahma was hewn off by Bhairawa, the aswin twins caused it to re-unite. They are also said to have healed up the wounds of the gods after the battle – between the Devas and the asuras.
