அமுத தாரணை

(அமுதம் + தாரணை) அதாவது சமாதி நிலையை அடைவதற்கு முன்னதாகவே, கண்டம், கபாலம், நெற்றி ஆகிய இவைகளில் சிந்தை வைத்து, அவ்விடங்களிற் றங்கியிராநின்றஅமிர்தத்தை வெளிப்படுத்தி அருந்துவதற்காக வேண்டிப் புரியும் ஓர்வித யோக நிலைமை. சித்தர்கள் அல்லது யோகிகள், நெடு நாளாக உணவின்றிச் சமாதி நிலையில் இருக்க வேண்டித் தங்கள் நாக்கை உள்நாக்குத் தண்டும்படி மடித்து, சுவாசக் குழலுக்குப் போகும் இடைவெளியைத் தடுத்துச் சித்தாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து, கபாலம், கண்டம், இவைகளிற் சிந்தை வைத்துப் புருவ மையத்தை நோக்கித் தவம் புரிவதால், நாபி முதல் நாசி பரியந்தம் யோகாக்கினிச் சுவாலையுண்டாகி அதனால் சிரசின் மூளைப் பகுதியாகிய ஆக்கினையின் பாகத்திலுள்ள பிரமரந்திரக் கோளங்கள் தாக்குண்டு, அவைகளினின்றும் அமிர்த மூறி உண்ணாக்கின் வழியாய்ப் பாய்ந்து, கண்டத்தின்மூலரந்திரத்தில் ஏற்படும் அமிர்தத்தோடு கலந்து சொட்டு சொட்டாய் விழுந்து கொண்டே இருக்கும். இதனை அருந்துவதால் தபசிகள், பசி, தாகம், சோர்வு, முதலியவைகளினின்று விடுபட்டு யோகத்தை யாதொரு இடையூறுமின்றிப் புரிவதற்காக ஏற்படுத்திக் கொள்ளும் நிலைமை. இதனால் அனேக வருஷ காலம் உயிர் நிலை பெற்றுத் தவம் புரிவதற்குச் சௌகரியம் ஏற்படும் - Ambrosia fixing the mind on a member of the body. It is one of the steps in the yoga practice, preparatory to Samadhi in which the adept concentrates on the psychic centres in the cervical and cerebral regions containing the mystic glands (thyroid, pineal and pituitary body) for purposes of drawing out the ambrosial fluid secreted therein. Siddhars and Yogis who want to remain undisturbed in the state of Samadhi for a long period without food etc., have recourse to a peculiar method of practice (Dharaja), in which they take up a particular posture and by stretching the tongue sufficiently long, roll it up so as to make it rest upon the palate and then fix it in the little hollow behind the uvula. While holding the tongue in this position, they concentrate on the place between the eye brows and the centres above and below it and as a result of the action, the magnetism which is liberated emanates from the navel region and extends upwards to the cerebral region. Adepts who would not be disturbed in their practice of yoga by hunger, thirst etc. always roll the tongue back in the mouth until it is fixed in the opening behind the uvula. They then drink the said fluid holding the tongue in that position.
