அதிசாரம் – பெருங்குடலின் உட்புறத்திலிருக்கும் சிலேட்டும சவ்வு தாபிதமும், இரணமும் கண்டு அதனால் மலத்தில் சீதமும், இரத்தமும் கலந்து விழுவதுடன் வயிற்று வலியும் காணும் நோய் சீதபேதி. -An acute specific disease due to the inflammation of the large intestine. It is marked by frequent stools containing blood and mucous and attended with griping pain in the bowels – Dysentery.
மலமானது வாயுவினால் கரைந்து தண்ணீராகி வயிற்றில் இரைச்சலையும் பேதியையுமுண்டாக்கும் ஓர் நோய். இது அநேகமாய் உணவின் குற்றங்களினால் ஏழை சனங்களைத் தாக்கும். சவலைக் குழந்தைகளுக்கும், தாய்ப் பாலில்லாமல் செயற்கை உணவினால் ஆதரிக்கப்படும் குழந்தைகளுக்கும், பல் முளைக்கும் குழந்தைகளுக்கும் இது சாதாரணமாக உண்டாகும். - Diarrhoea arising from the deranged condition of Vayu. It is characterised by watery stools and rumbling noise in the stomach. Poorer classes are chiefly attacked by this disease, the use of incompatible articles of food being the main cause. Children weaned and those brought up by artificial food as well as those with out mother’s milk and children during their teething period are liable to this disease – Diarrhoea.
கிரகணி அதாவது சாதம் செரியாமல் அக்கினி மீறி, வாயு அதிகரித்து, மூலத்தில் தங்கி, எந்நேரமும் பேதியையுண்டாக்கும் ஓர் நோய். இது உணவின் குற்றம், அகால போசனம், அசுத்த நீரருந்தல், அதிகமாகப் போதை செய்தல், மலசல விஸர்ஜனம் முதலியவைகளினால் ஏற்படும் வேகத்தையடக்கல், குடலிற் பூச்சிகளுண்டாகுதல் முதலிய காரணங்களினால் உண்டாகும். சதா மலவாயிலிருந்து மலம் ஒழுகுவதால் இதற்கு இப்பெயர்.- A chronic dysentery arising from indigestion due to the excessive heat in the iliac region especially colon. It is chiefly due to extraneous causes such as, incompatible articles of food, untimely meals, use of poisonous substances, drinking impure water, excessive use of liquor, voluntary repression of any natural urgings of the body and germination of parasites in the intestines – Bacillary dysentery. The disease is so named form the constant oozing out of liquid fecal matter from the anus. Chronic dysentery may continue for many months or even years before recovery takes place and any deviation from a prescribed monotonous diet is certain to bring on a renewed attack.
ஆங்கிலேய நூற்படி, அடிக்கடி நீராக மலங்கழியும் ஓர் வகைக் கழிச்சல் எனப் பொருள்படும். இது சாதாரணமாய்ப் பெருங்குடலின் உட்புறத்திலிருந்தும் சவ்வுக்குத் தாபிதமும், இரணமும் கண்டு அதனால் மலம் நீராகவும் அத்துடன் சீதம், இரத்தம், ஊன், நிணநீர், பித்தநீர் முதலானவைகள் கலந்தும் சமயத்திற்கேற்றவாறு உடம்பையடுத்தோ அல்லது வெளிக் காரணங்களினாலோ குழந்தைகளுக்கோ, சிறுவர்கள் அல்லது பெரியவர்களுக்கோ காணும் கழிச்சல் என்று சொல்லப்படும். அந்நூற்படி இது பல்வகைத்தாயினும் அதிற் கூறியுள்ள எல்லா வகை நோய்களையும் நமது நாட்டிற் காணலாம். - According to Allopathic science, it is an abnormal frequency and liquidity of fecal discharge. It is generally a term given to a number of disorders due to the inflammation and sometimes ulcers of the intestines, especially in the colon. It is attended with frequent stools containing mucous, blood, serum, chyle or gastric fluids. It may be either constitutional or due to external causes, such as, imprudence in diet, atmospheric changes, chillness etc. So it orginates from numerous causes, and every kind cf it is met with in our country.
i. குழந்தைகளைத் தாக்கும் நோய் வரலாறு
1. வேனிற்காலத்திலாவது, உஷ்ண தேசத்திலாவது தாக்குமானால் இதற்கு உஷ்ணக் கழிச்சலென்று பெயர். 5. If it is attacks them in the summer season or in hot countries, it is termed as Summer diarrhoea or Diarrhoea alba.
2. மாந்தத்தினால் நீராகவும், அடிக்கடி மிகுதியாகவும் பேதியானால் மாந்தக் கழிச்சலெனப்படும். 6. If it is attended with watery fecal discharge ordinarily due to indigestion it is known as Simple diarrhoea.
3. சாதாரணமாய் உணவின் குற்றம், சீதளம், செரியாமை, மலபந்தம் முதலியவைகள் சம்பந்தப்பட்டால் அது குழந்தைக் கழிச்சலென்று சொல்லப்படும். If it arises from errors in diet, chillness, indigestion, constipation etc, it is called Infantile diarrhoea.
4. வெண்மையாகச் சீதங்கலந்து பேதியாகில் வெள்ளுடைக் கழிச்சலென்பர். If it is one in which the stools contain thin white mucous, it is named White diarrhoea.
5. ஊன் கலந்து தண்ணீராய்ப் பேதியானால் ஊன் கழிச்சலெனப்படும். If the fecal discharge is softened by copious serous fluid, it is known as serous or watery diarrhoea.
6. நெஞ்சிற்கபம், வயிற்றிரைச்சல் இவைகள் காணில் சங்கரக் கழிச்சலென்று சொல்லப்படுவதுண்டு -------
ii. சிறுவர்கள் அல்லது பெரியோர்களைத் தாக்கும் நோய் வரலாறு
1. (c) செரியாமையினாலும் பித்த நீர்க் கோளாறினாலும் உண்டாகுங் கழிச்சலுக்கு அசீரணக் கழிச்சலென்று பெயர். If it arises from indigestion or gastric disorders, it is called Gastrogenic diarrhoea.
2. வெயிற்காலத்திலும், ஆனி, ஆடி மாதங்களிலும் உட்டிணப் பிரதேசங்களில் சீதபேதிக்கு முன்னதாகவும் காணுங் கழிச்சலுக்குச் சீதக் கழிச்சலென்று பெயர். If the attack is during the heat of summer or in hot countries during June and July premonitory to dysentery it is known as Dysenteric diarrhoea.
3. அசுத்தமான உணவு, உணவின் வகைக் குற்றம், விஷம் ஆகிய இவைகளினாலேற்படும் பேதிக்கு வயிற்றுக் கடுப்பு என்று பெயர். If it is one from irritation of the intestines due to improper food, errors in diet and poisons etc., it is termed as Irritative diarrhoea.
4. வாந்தி பேதிக்கு முன்னதாக உண்டாகும் கழிச்சல், வாந்தி பேதிக் கழிச்சலெனப்படும். இதில் ஊன் வெளிப்பட்டு, வாந்தி கண்டு, ஓய்ச்சல் காணும். If it is of a serous form premonitory to cholera, accompanied by vomiting and collapse it is called as Choleraic diarrhoea.
5. உடம்பையடுத்த கழிச்சலானால் திரிதோஷக் கழிச்சலென்று சொல்வதுண்டு. If it is due to some constitutional disease, it is named Cachectic diarrhoea.
6. செரியாமையினால் உண்டானால் அது செரியாக் கழிச்சல். If it is of a form attended with fluid stools containing undigested food it is known as Lienteric diarrhoea.
7. கணச் சூட்டினால் உடம்பு மெலிந்து காணும் கழிச்சல் தான் கணக் கழிச்சல். If it is of a variety peculiar to tuberculosis marked by emaciation, it is called as Tuberculous diarrhoea.
8. ஏழை சனங்களுக்குக் தொத்துவியாதியைப் போல் பீடித்துச் சுகாதார முறையை அனுசரிக்காத குற்றத்தினாற் பெருவாரியாக்க் காணுங் கழிச்சல் பெருவாரிக் கழிச்சலென்று சொல்லப்படும்.
If it is of kind attacking many a poorer classes, in a particular area not observing the sanitary principles and then coverting into an epidemic form, it is called as Epidemic dysentery.
