a. அரோரூட்டுச் செட்டியின் கிழங்கினின்று தயாரித்த மாவு, கிழங்கை இடித்துத் தண்ணிர் விட்டு அலம்பிப் பிழிந்தெடுத்து, வடிக்கட்டித் தெளிய வைத்த பிறகு அடியில் நிற்கும் வெளுப்பான பாளம் அல்லது வண்டல்தான் இம்மாவு. இதைக் காய வைத்துப் பக்குவப்படுத்தி விற்கப்படும். இத ஒரு முக்கியமான ஆகாரமாகக் கொள்ளப்படும்.
இது சாகோ அரிசி முதலானவைகளின் பாகைவிட மிகவும் சிறந்தது. இதன் கஞ்சி, பலவீனம்ப்பட்ட நோயாளிகளுக்குப் பத்தியமாக உபயோகப்படும். குழந்தைகளுக்கும் கொடுக்கலாம். இதன் கஞ்சிக்குச் சிறிது சாதிக்காயைத் தூள் பண்ணிச் சேர்த்துச் சுரத்திற்கு உணவாகவும் கொடுக்கலாம்.

b. This arrow-root flour is obtained from the rasped tubers of this plant. The tubers are cleaned, well pounded in water and then strained; the white sediment left behind forms the soft white flour which is dried and secured in packets for sale. It is more nutritious than Sago. It is a pure form of starch and is included as a light diet for invalids in their first of food. It can also be safely give to children. Conjee prepared from this with a little powdered nutmeg added to it is prescribed in fever.
NOTE: The arrow root flour obtained from the bazaar is frequently adulterated with the potato starch, which may be detected with the microscope, the granules of potato - starch appearing larger.
